What is Online Apprenticeship?

  • The New Jersey PHCC offers online plumbing and HVACR apprentice courses for apprentices who need a non-classroom based method of receiving their apprenticeship instruction. This program is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, New Jersey Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration, & Office of Apprenticeship, as a reasonable option for apprentice training. Each course is the equivalent of one year of classroom instruction and is approved for the required 144 hrs. of RTI. Our Academy is NJDOL approved and registered for online apprenticeship program in the State of New Jersey.

What is the benefit to online apprenticeship?

  • The PHCC Academy courses offer a consistent experience for companies training many apprentices over time, with course materials developed by industry experts. Our training is offered through a professional, education-focused Learning Management System (LMS) that is easy to access and use.
  • Pace of Learning - We are a go at your own pace program with open enrollment all year, no semesters. The student has 1 year from the start date complete a course however we understand life gets in the way sometimes so we do offer 6 month extensions for a fee. Apprentices work at their own pace. Apprentices who are considerably experienced can typically move through the curriculum quickly. Individuals who are highly motivated can also work at a fast pace.
  • Convenience — Apprentices can work from the comfort of their home or office, at a schedule that best suits their needs. Apprentices may postpone eLearning during peak work periods, setting aside time for study on weekends or other more convenient times.
  • Since there is no set schedule, apprentices pursuing eLearning must be self-disciplined and self-motivated to maintain steady progress. Employer support and monitoring can be an effective method for addressing this issue. eLearning places primary responsibility for learning on the apprentice. When needed, most apprentices ask their employer or PHCC for assistance.
